а ведь, оказывается, мультфильм “The Mysterious Geographic Explorations of Jasper Morello” в самом деле задумывался с продолжениями:

Jasper Morello was developed and produced in association with the Australian Film Commission; developed and produced with the assistance of Film Victoria and produced in association with SBS Independent.
The First Voyage – Jasper Morello and the Lost Airship
The Second Voyage – Jasper Morello and the Return of Claude Belgon
The Third Voyage – Jasper Morello and the Ghosts of Alto Mea
The Fourth Voyage – Jasper Morello and the Ebenezer of Gothia, in a feature presentation.

Moog:

Last week, Moog Music released Filtatron, an iPhone app modeled after Moog’s own analogue hardware.

<...>

Using its filter ladder — a four-pole resonant ladder filter modeled after the filter found on analogue Moog hardware — Filtatron shapes sound, giving it characteristics akin to a real Moog filter.

So what do the Pre-Raphaelites and Steampunk have in common? The straightforward and initial answer I thought was “absolutely nothing: They are anathema to each other.” The Pre-Raphaelite code of life was for art to reflect nature. Nature is romanticized. In the Steampunk code of life, technology is transformed into art. Technology is romanticized. It doesn’t get a lot more dualistic than nature vs. technology.

However, upon further contemplation, and after I talked with a friend about my knee-jerk reaction and she commented that “Steampunk is the Arts and Crafts Movement of today”, I had to admit that the issue wasn’t as black and white as it appeared. The two philosophies do have some similar ground, especially in the Arts & Crafts movement founded by the Brotherhood‘s second-generation member, William Morris.

-A Nostalgic look back at the past. Both philosophies despair at certain aspects of what was for them “modern” life, and instead look back at what was for them “simpler” times, attempting to blend that romantic era with modern existence.

<...>

-Recycling.

<...>

-A fear or concern for what modern society has become.

My initial idea of steampunk was that it was an aesthetic movement about nostalgia, but after interviewing people and realizing how fully steampunk spans the globe, I’ve decided it’s really about contemporary dialogue. Steampunk has become an international movement, and is beginning to become popular in countries and cultures that don’t have the Victorian England/Gilded Age American context. These steampunks work within their own cultural heritages to rewrite and explore their histories in an imaginative way without diminishing the seriousness of the issues they raise. In addition to race and class issues, there is also another dialogue on sustainability, consumerism, and community economies. By having all these serious issues raised in an entertaining manner, I think it is more inviting and open to people, and a very effective way of transmitting ideas and information.

Two things in particular persuaded me of Marxism’s validity. One was that this theoretical approach dovetailed perfectly with my pre-existing political instincts and commitments, and gave them more rigor. The other was that Marxism— historical materialism—was theoretically all-encompassing: it allowed me to understand the world in its totality without being dogmatic. I’d felt, for example, that while feminist theory might have an explanation of gender inequality, it didn’t have much to offer on, say, international exchange rates. Marxism was able to make sense of all the various social phenomena from a unified perspective.

Hatsune Miku. She’s a Japanese pop diva who’s just started to play massive stadium concerts to sold out crowds. Her hair is blue, she dresses like Sailor Moon, and she’ll only appear in concerts via a 3D ‘hologram’. Oh, and did I forget to mention that she’s completely fictional?
