Лилиана Кавани в разговоре о своем фильме “Ночной портье“:
Это история женщины, которая пережила Освенцим. Она не была еврейкой, она была партизанкой. Когда я ее спросила, что ее поразило больше всего в пережитом, она сказала, что этот опыт позволил ей коснуться некоторых сторон своей внутренней жизни, о которых она не знала. Нам-то, большинству из нас, повезло. В нашей жизни нам не приходится принимать во внимание вот эту темную сторону, которая таится в каждом. Культура, вера, знания дают нам шанс на протяжении всей жизни скрывать эту внутреннюю темную сторону нашего бытия. Но бывают моменты в истории, когда для некоторых людей совершать преступление – это долг. Долг повиновения. И очень немногие могут устоять, даже если речь не идет об угрозе их собственной жизни. Посмотрите, что недавно произошло в бывшей Югославии, когда во время войны многие простые люди, которые никогда бы при других обстоятельствах даже не задумались об этом, стали совершать чудовищные вещи. Многих это удивило, потому что казалось, что с окончанием Второй мировой войны, когда произошли такие кошмары, достигнут определенный предел и ничего подобного повториться не может.

[О]чевидно, что и простые люди порой способны на преступление… Тема фильма такова: возможно ли, чтобы человек побудил другого убить кого-то в первый раз. Роман доказывает, что это возможно, и человеческая история это доказывает. Это касается обычных, простых людей. Простые люди не могут даже вообразить, что станут убийцами. Но мы же видим, что это возможно, это происходит на самом деле.

возвращаясь к недавнему скандалу касательно PRISM[1], Apple выпустила собственное заявление:
Apple has always placed a priority on protecting our customers’ personal data, and we don’t collect or maintain a mountain of personal details about our customers in the first place. There are certain categories of information which we do not provide to law enforcement or any other group because we choose not to retain it.
For example, conversations which take place over iMessage and FaceTime are protected by end-to-end encryption so no one but the sender and receiver can see or read them. Apple cannot decrypt that data. Similarly, we do not store data related to customers’ location, Map searches or Siri requests in any identifiable form.
We will continue to work hard to strike the right balance between fulfilling our legal responsibilities and protecting our customers’ privacy as they expect and deserve.

The US Patent and Trademark Office made public this week a newly-granted Apple patent. It’s called “Techniques to pollute electronic profiling.”
Apple didn’t invent this technology. It was probably invented at Novell. But, according to the patent document, Apple is an “assignee,” which means Apple has the exclusive legal right to use or license the technology.
The idea is to foil online data harvesting through misinformation. It’s a method for systematically lying to data-harvesting servers.

[T]he reductionist view of design began with the dramatic Jobs vs. Ive framing and narrative around the Attack on Skeulandia: Steve Jobs, the liberal arts-y humanist, supposedly wanted the faux leather, felt, and wood-textured treatments of real-world objects applied to virtual ones. Jony Ive, the art-school modernist, supposedly didn’t want any of it.
Not only is this framing overly simplified, it’s also irrelevant to design discourse. It misses the key point that design is really about unlocking the possibilities that lie within multiple perspectives. That design is about solving a complex problem with multiple constraints.
