кстати, Яндекс тоже убил свой сервис подписок, аналог давно канувшего в лету Google Reader:
Старый формат Подписок, к сожалению, не нашёл достаточной популярности среди пользователей, поэтому мы предлагаем переехать с RSS потоками либо в Мои Новости, где можно добавить ещё и Twitter, Вконтакте, Facebook, либо забрать все потоки в виде opml-файла, который можно «скормить» любому другому агрегатору RSS, не Яндексу.
ясно, что сделано это было в лучших традициях советской продавщицы, без предупреждений и объяснений, — и не то, чтобы я пользовался хоть каким-то из их сервисов, но столь ярая приверженность хамским традициям все же по-настоящему завораживает.
впрочем, понятно, что баннер в такой фид не вклеить, да и кто вообще пользуется RSS до сих пор? конечно, есть разные интересные люди, что неизменно публикуют забавные статьи у себя на страничках, но вот честно, если попросту отказаться от всего этого, то что потеряешь? не думаю, что так уж много — тем более, что все действительно интересное так или иначе, однако найдет свою дорогу к читателю.
on a side note, мне нравилась когда-то идея Prismatic-и-других, что сами подбирали тебе новости по ключевым интересам. однако, и у них тоже в силу разных причин не сложилось, а наиболее устойчивой схемой для меня оказалась все та же газета за кружкой чая. не бумажная, конечно, но электронные издания: несколько сайтов, тематических приложений — и про отдельные suscriptions я уже давно и не думаю.

According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, Microsoft will be investing in Cyanogen, Inc., the Android ROM builder. The report says that Microsoft would be a “minority investor” [taking part] in a $70 million round of financing that values Cyanogen in the “high hundreds of millions.”
Cyanogen takes the Android source code and modifies it, adding more features and porting it to other devices. It has also started supplying Android builds directly to OEMs (like the OnePlus One), which ship the software on devices instead of stock Android. Last week during a talk in San Francisco, Cyanogen’s CEO said the company’s goal was to “take Android away from Google.” It wants to replace the Google Play ecosystem with apps of its own, the same way that Amazon uses the Android Open Source Project for its Kindle Fire products but adds its own app and content stores.
продавать Office надо везде, разумеется, — особенно учитывая существенное раздражение производителей, что рано или поздно могут сказать “нет” подобным ограничениям:
Google pushes a lot of requirements on Android OEMs. If they want the Google Play Store, it also forces them to take all other Google products and services. There is also an “anti-fragmentation clause,” which forbids OEMs from selling Android devices without Google Play. Cyanogen’s Android distributions wouldn’t have any such limitations, but then neither would a self-made AOSP build.
что, с другой стороны, определенно напоминает о прибыльности всех этих робото-продаж[1]:
[L]ast quarter Apple’s revenue was downright decimated by the strengthening U.S. dollar; currency fluctuations reduced Apple’s revenue by 5% – a cool $3.73 billion dollars. That, though, is more than Google made in profit last quarter ($2.83 billion). Apple lost more money to currency fluctuations than Google makes in a quarter.
забавно, не правда ли: известная открытость мало того, что сомнительна удобством, не вызывает доверия — так еще и элементарно опасный бизнес.

- вот абсолютно волшебный Workflow, что-то навроде Automator, но для iOS, уже сейчас умеющий многое и многое, и дальше обещающий только лучше, конечно;
- так же, чуть с другой стороны, хорошая Pythonista — меня долгое время расстраивало отсутствие мобильной версии R, но в конце концов, чем Python не ответ?
- и on top of all that, совершенно чудесный Quandl, коллекция практически любых данных, что только можно придумать (пусть, может, и не доступный в Pythonista напрямую, но, в конце концов, есть ведь так же и обычный urllib).
это и делает жизнь проще, инструменты? определенно, да.

говорят, Яндекс выпустил очередную версию своего браузера с минимальным присутствием управляющих элементов в GUI? ха-ха, говорим[1] в ответ, ха-ха.

спасибо полноэкранному режиму в виртуальных десктопах OS X, браузером в оконном режиме я не пользуюсь уже годы. (но все эти слова по-русски звучат как-то… несуразно, правда?) ↩

“Haunting Melissa” and “Dark Hearts” [the app-only horror series] were both created using Hooked Digital Media’s proprietary, which includes a patented technology it calls “dynamic story elements” that makes changes in an episode if you view it again. That means that every time you rewatch an episode of “Haunting Melissa” or “Dark Hearts,” you see and hear new details that add layers to the series’ narrative and atmosphere.
“Dark Hearts” also uses Apple’s SceneKit technology to drop clips at random into the app’s window. Viewer analytics from “Haunting Melissa,” such as which episodes or scenes got the most views or replays, helped shape the new series’ story, structure, and chapter release schedule.
как принято говорить, от продюсера Mulholland Drive — и если и был в жизни киномомент, действительно напугавший меня, то вот он, именно оттуда.

вчера Apple выпустила SDK для будущих часовщиков-разрабочиков, где рассказывается, как именно пользователям можно будет можно будет лайкать очередных кошечек или деточек[1]. вот хорошее резюме:
