невозможно пройти мимо — по-моему, это прекрасно:

Плоская Земля является одним из наиболее внятных символов надежды.
Потому что если Земля плоская, то всегда есть шанс дойти до её края и там, за этим краем, всё равно что-то будет.
Не важно что. Что-то.
Можно сказать, что образ Плоской Земли, символизирует не просто надежду, а надежду на Чудо.
Соответственно, Круглая Земля – это символ отчаяния. Потому что сколько по ней ни ходи, всё равно никуда с неё не денешься.

Hacker group ‘Anonymous’ is organising international, real-life protests of the Australian mandatory internet filter this coming Saturday. Protests will take place in major Australian cities as well as at Australian embassies around the world. The protests are said to be the second stage of ‘Operation Titstorm,’ which unleashed a prolonged DDoS attack on Australian government websites last week. Organisers of the so-called Project Freeweb said: ‘If passed, this legislation will set a disturbing precedent at an international level. The public, not the Government, should have the right to decide what is deemed appropriate for you or your family to be exposed to.’

It usually takes an author decades to win fawning reviews, march up the best-seller list and become a finalist for a major book prize. Helene Hegemann, just 17, did it with her first book, all in the space of a few weeks, and despite a savaging from critics over plagiarism.

For the obviously gifted Ms. Hegemann, who already had a play (written and staged) and a movie (written, directed and released in theaters) to her credit, it was an early ascension to the ranks of artistic stardom. That is, until a blogger last week uncovered material in the novel taken from the less-well-known novel “Strobo,” by an author writing under the nom de plume Airen. In one case, an entire page was lifted with few changes.

14-го февраля не только умер святой Валентин, но и наконец-то заработал ENIAC:

ENIAC, short for Electronic Numerical Integrator And Computer, was the first general-purpose electronic computer. It was a Turing-complete, digital computer capable of being reprogrammed to solve a full range of computing problems. ENIAC was designed to calculate artillery firing tables for the United States Army’s Ballistic Research Laboratory, but its first use was in calculations for the hydrogen bomb. <...> The ENIAC’s design and construction were financed by the United States Army during World War II. The construction contract was signed on June 5, 1943, and work on the computer was begun in secret by the University of Pennsylvania’s Moore School of Electrical Engineering starting the following month under the code name “Project PX”. The completed machine was unveiled on February 14, 1946 at the University of Pennsylvania.

а вот и первые результаты:

We’ve been getting feedback via the Gmail help forums and emails from friends and family, and we’ve also been able to do something new: read the buzz about Buzz itself. We quickly realized that we didn’t get everything quite right. We’re very sorry for the concern we’ve caused and have been working hard ever since to improve things based on your feedback. We’ll continue to do so.

If they include therapists or divorce lawyers, then anyone who views your profile can guess how your personal life is going.

людишки, кстати, неизменно прозябают, желая похоронить остальных. то кино, то литературу, то соседей.

такова уж природа, ничего не поделать. однако, наблюдая подобное, на языке вечно застревает эдакий легкий привкус засранства: выглядывает там что-то наружу, копошится в чем-то, созревает.

за это и люблю [info]chto_chitat, за это — за невозможность о них позабыть.

кстати, о прайваси: история повторяется с забавной точностью — Гугл мало того, что совершенно не учится на ошибках, так еще и результат все хуже с каждой итерацией.

нет, разумеется, они предельно точны в своей политике и дословно следуют логике Эрика Шмидта:

If you have something that you don’t want anyone to know, maybe you shouldn’t be doing it in the first place.

однако, Гугл еще все-таки не купил Землю, а на пока что дворе не 1984 год.

ну, и про Buzz заодно — во-первых, предсказания начинают сбываться, вэйв и в самом деле плавно растекается фейсбуком по джимэйлу, а во-вторых, сейчас это все же больше напоминает попытки вскочить в давно ушедший поезд.

так что всех развлечений только очередные кросспосты, и прочая абсолютная никчемность. смешно, впрочем, другое:

According to CNet, Google’s Sergey Brin said that one of the most useful Buzz features for him is the ability “to start typing a thought right off the bat without having to worry about disrupting other people… I can throw something out there and the people who are most interested and most relevant tend to pay attention and reply.”

но при этом оповещения нескончаемой толпой падают в ящик, а собственно метка Buzz постоянно мелькает обновляющимеся цифрами — хорошенькое себе “without having to worry about disrupting other people”, все приходится делать самому.
