This video shows a WowWee Rovio mobile spy robot being piloted remotely over a Skype video call using thought, facial gestures, and head movements, with the help of the Emotiv Systems EPOC 14-electrode EEG headset with built-in gyroscope. An accompanying article explains in detail how the system works and what steps were taken with the Emotiv systems SDK to interface with the EPOC headset along with code samples. The system is based on Robodance 5, a free robot control program for consumer robot owners that will be out in beta on May 20, 2010.

Я не женоненавистник, и если я говорю «безмозглые», то не повторяю глупости вслед за разными Вайнингерами, отказывающими прекрасному полу в уме; это следует понимать буквально: теледубль и теледублетка — не более чем манекены, пустые оболочки, управляемые человеком.
Надев одежду со множеством вшитых электродов, прилегающих к коже, каждый может воплотиться в теледубля или теледублетку. Никто не подозревал, какие за этим последуют потрясения, особенно в эротической жизни — от супружеских отношений до старейшей в мире профессии.

There is something interesting about Facebook’s announcement of the (not really open) Open Graph that has received less press; the fact that Facebook is a private company. No one knows for sure how much of the company Zuckerberg and others own, but it wouldn’t likely be difficult for him to put together 51% of the company. What that means is that a private individual (or small group of individuals) own virtually everyone’s online identities. The difference between a private company and a public company owning these identities, is that a private one is under no legal obligation to try to make a profit with them. This makes a private company’s actions very difficult to predict/understand. I’m not saying Zuckerberg isn’t a good guy, I’m saying its too much responsibility for one 25 year old.

Мои мечты сложнее. У меня в планах дом на побережье и спать до девяти. И счастье для всех людей. И выбросить телефон в море. И чтоб зимние помидоры были вкуснее поролона.
Для выполнения этих несложных желаний, я считал, нужно десять тысяч лет разводить гигантских бобров. Вот сдам хомяка, займусь бобрами и жизнь наладится.

да, пропавший iPhone 4, разумеется, наделал много шума — вначале его потеряли, затем продали, после чего вскрыли, детально изучили, сфтографировали, и лишь потом наконец вернули Apple Inc.
однако, как выяснилось следом, дело на этом не закончилось: вечером в пятницу 23-го апреля представители полицейского отряда быстрого реагировании проникли в дом журналиста Gizmodo.com Джейсона Чена и конфисковали практически все его оборудование — в общей сложности 22 предмета.
с анализом происходящего разной степени точности отметились почти все: TechCrunch, Yahoo, NYT, Slashdot и многие другие, но, оставив в стороне юридические тонкости самой лучшей правовой базы штата Калифорния государтсва США, меня, однако, заинтересовало совсем другое:
- почему журналист не может написать статью о том, что нашел его источник?
- почему fanboys, которые вначале готовы были продать душу за хотя бы намек о том, каким получится следующий продукт одной фруктовой компании, теперь с таким же энтузиазмом требуют, как минимум, четвертовать журналиста, который в точности и показал им этот самый будущий продукт?
- почему, в самом деле, решаются комментировать эту историю только исключительно самые альтернативно одаренные апологеты и евангелисты этой самой фруктовой компании?

Google has been fined 8,500 dollars in Brazil after an anonymous Internet user posted defamatory messages on one of its sites against a priest, calling him a “pedophile,” media reported Sunday.

нашел очередное замечательное приложение для iPhone OS:
The result is an app called City Poems – published today – that uses satellite navigation to guide culture vultures and tourists alike through the streets of central London poem by poem. After weeks of researching poems about the city, I realised that you can learn more about the past life of a city from poems than from most guide books and histories. Wherever you are standing in London (or New York for that matter) with an iPhone (or iPod Touch or iPad) in your hand it will tell you how many metres you are away from places and events that poems have been written about.
They include the execution of the criminal Jonathan Wild (one of the inspirations for John Gay’s The Beggar’s Opera), public burnings in Smithfield (“His guts filled a barrel”) or the curious stories behind the statues in Trafalgar Square, which I had passed by in ignorance for many decades.

At Hanover Messe 2010, DFKI Bremen showcased a new humanoid robot called AILA, which is demonstrating how robots might be used interactively in dynamic environments with humans by 2020. The system uses SemProM (Semantic Product Memory), which it combines with its computer vision when handling objects of varying shapes and sizes. For example, AILA can adjust how it holds a bottle based on its weight and fragility. Each product or object stores and communicates its properties, such as its size, where it needs to be transported, which production line it belongs to, and so on through RFID.

Facebook has recently launched a new version of F8 (their development platform) with Open Graph connectivity. You can now “Like” fanpages (instead of “Become a fan”) and with external sites like Pandora, if you “Like” the website (connect to it) you’ll get updates on music. <...> For example, say I had a button called Like on this blog. You could click on that Facebook Like button and your friends on Facebook will get a newsfeed item saying “WhateverYourNameIs likes LaurelPapworth.com”. But it doesn’t stop there. Now everytime you are on Flickr, or Slideshare, my stuff will come up first. Good for me. But do you really want to be tracked like that?
This next version of Facebook Platform puts people at the center of the web. It lets you shape your experiences online and make them more social. For example, if you like a band on Pandora, that information can become part of the graph so that later if you visit a concert site, the site can tell you when the band you like is coming to your area.

None of these things had identity until now.

So perhaps there’s a compromise? Let me implement my own Like feature and have it connect up to Facebook through a feed. And let it connect up to Facebook’s competitors just as easily. I’m sure the smart guys at Facebook could figure out how to do this, perhaps they already have? I’m willing to do a little extra work to keep the web independent of any one company.
