отличная статья, между прочим:
Какова культурная специфика России в сравнении с Западом? Прежде всего, установим отличия восточнохристианского религиозного фона от западнохристианского. Наиболее глубокое и существенное из них — отсутствовавший у латинян догмат о различии сущности (греч. ousia, лат. substantia) и энергий (греч. energeia, лат. operatio) в Боге. Согласно этому греческому догмату, сущность Бога ни познаваема, ни непознаваема, но сверхнепознаваема (греч. hyper-): она, как замечает Палама, абсолютно недоступна для нашего познания — и все же непостижимым образом доступна. Единственное, с чем человек может твердо иметь дело, — это энергии, «действования», «операции» Бога, которые относятся к Его сущности как лучи к солнцу. При этом сам Бог есть не что иное, как имя для этих энергий, но не для Его сверхнепознаваемой сущности.
Латинянам такая точка зрения представлялась еретической, абсурдной, почти что языческой (поскольку единый Бог оказывался как бы двумя богами). Принятая Римско-католической церковью томистская догма гласит, что сущность Бога непознаваема, но при этом она полностью тождественна Его energeia (лат. actus): все совершаемое — постольку, поскольку оно совершается, — это и есть Он во всем Его совершенстве и полноте. Поэтому человек, принадлежа Богу, способен познавать себя в такой же степени, в какой Бог знает себя, и все создаваемое человеком может нести на себе отпечаток Божественного совершенства, пускай и сущностно непостижимого.
немного стеба, однако в остальном еще одна хорошая попытка уловить эти корни. да, возможно, автор упускает наследие орды, идею причастности, коллективного стремления и иррациональной экстенстивности, что наложилось, мне кажется, значительно сильнее, нежели иные византийские согласия, но, тем не менее, это очень и очень интересный экскурс.

The idea behind a warrant canary: if the government comes to a company with legal demands and a gag order in tow, that company can’t say anything to its users about it. They can, however, suddenly stop saying everything is okay.

The Neolithic was marked by a transition from small and relatively egalitarian groups to much larger groups with increased stratification. But, the dynamics of this remain poorly understood. It is hard to see how despotism can arise without coercion, yet coercion could not easily have occurred in an egalitarian setting. Using a quantitative model of evolution in a patch-structured population, we demonstrate that the interaction between demographic and ecological factors can overcome this conundrum. We model the coevolution of individual preferences for hierarchy alongside the degree of despotism of leaders, and the dispersal preferences of followers. We show that voluntary leadership without coercion can evolve in small groups, when leaders help to solve coordination problems related to resource production. An example is coordinating construction of an irrigation system. Our model predicts that the transition to larger despotic groups will then occur when: (i) surplus resources lead to demographic expansion of groups, removing the viability of an acephalous niche in the same area and so locking individuals into hierarchy; (ii) high dispersal costs limit followers’ ability to escape a despot. Empirical evidence suggests that these conditions were probably met, for the first time, during the subsistence intensification of the Neolithic.

There’s a problem with total recall. It doesn’t allow us as a society to forget. And that means, paradoxically, we lose something. Perfect memory engenders individual paralysis — because any legacy of personal failure is not allowed to fade into the background. And individuals are not, therefore, encouraged to evolve and move on.
но кто бы удивлялся, Google являет еще один пример очередной подмены понятий, столь привычной в нынешних сетевых баталиях[1]:

A political party is a political party. It is a large group of people allied for the purpose of seizing and wielding power. If it does not choose to arm its followers, this is only because it finds unarmed followers more useful than armed ones. If it chooses less effective strategies out of moral compunction, it will be outcompeted by some less-principled party.
When one party gains full control over the state, it gains a massive revenue stream that it can divert entirely to its supporters. The result is a classic informal management structure, whose workings should be clear to anyone who watched a few episodes of “The Sopranos.” Without a formal ownership structure, in which the entire profit of the whole enterprise is collected and distributed centrally, money and other goodies leak from every pore.
Totalitarian states are gangster states, in other words, and they tend to corruption and mismanagement.
so, is it about distribution, actually? в случае с Российской Федерацией, очевидно, да. а в случае с ранним СССР или Третьим рейхом? мне кажется, оценивать тоталитарные государства с исключительно материальной точки зрения — это серьезное ограничение, пусть даже такое следствие и формируется естественным образом в ограниченной группе правящей партии: разумеется, деньги обязаны найти выход. но что направляет совокупность причин? “not wealth or luxury or long life or happiness: only power, pure power.”
я думаю, тоталитарные государства — это, в первую очередь, жажда власти с одной стороны, и не меньшая жажда тирана с другой. достаточно вспомнить Пятигорского, да?
если взять карту мира после Первой мировой войны, обозначить последствия, затем взять карту мира на пороге Второй мировой войны, где закрасить все тоталитарные государства одним цветом[1], — и сравнить, то не будет ли это естественным ответом на то, как отнюдь не коррупция инициирует подобные сдвиги?
при этом я, конечно, согласен с автором процитированного отрывка, Менсиэсом Молдбагом, изветным в миру, как Кэртис Ярвин: демократия — это все равно болезнь, и только здоровье пациента решает, отправит лечение его в могилу, или ему даже не предпишут постельный режим[2].
и если вдуматься, будущие государства-города, не описаные разве что ленивым, — то они ровно об этом же, про интенсивное развитие, про отрицание популистских идей без реального подтверждения, про защиту от демократии, от тирании серости.
если только не сгинем по пути.

это так же ответ и на то, почему Сталин не верил в возможное нападение Германии. хотя, казалось бы, движущие националистические идеи и очевидные экономические потребности в рабочей силе не могли не указывать на экстенсивный характер нацистского будущего. ↩

мне, очевидно, так же кажется весьма интересным одно существенное различие в демократиях: Конституции большинства государств отдают суверенитет народу. однако, некодифицированная английская, наоброт, признает суверенитет лишь за Парламентом, посредством такого делигирования, одевая среднестатистическим избирателям на шею либо спасательный круг, либо, наоборот, веревку с камнем — это уж как посмотреть. ↩

One of the defining images of the cyberpunk movement of the 1980s and 90s was William Gibson’s cyberspace decks. Although never explicitly described, they seemed to be something like a self-contained keyboard with electrode leads hanging off and a sometimes unmarked keyboard that hackers used to jack into the Matrix. I remember running around in my parents’ basement with my unplugged Atari 800XL (which was about the size and shape of a thick Ono-Senday) pretending to be a cyberhacker making a run on the House Of Blue Lights. I obviously didn’t have a lot of friends.
