A trio of old-school bunraku puppet robots revived nearly 40 years after they were unveiled at the 1970 World Expo in Osaka are temporarily on display at the National Science Museum in Tokyo. Modeled after classic bunraku puppets, each pre-programmed robot is driven by around 20 pneumatic cylinders that move the arms, torso, head and face in sync with accompanying audio.

Musician/ roboticists Dan Paluska and Jeff Lieberman constructed a web-connected “robotic mechanical orchestra” that plays a marimba by firing rubber balls out of a cannon, strikes traditional percussion instruments, and also rubs mechanical fingers along wine glasses. The machine, Absolut Quartet, uses artificial intelligence to creatively riff on melodies composed remotely by users on the web.
меня всегда интересует один и тот же дилетантский вопрос, если говорить о подобном: когда один из них сможет исполнить “Die Kunst der Fuge”, то на чью из существующих интерпретаций это будет больше всего похоже? насколько поддается алгоритмизации Татьяна Николаева, или, скажем, Антон Батагов?
