а вот из интервью Рэндалла Манро, автора xkcd и — что немаловажно — “What if?”:
MEGAN GARBER: Why that need to answer? Is it because people are asking you — because you want to help them out by answering the questions for them?
RANDALL MUNROE: Oh, no, no, no, there’s nothing altruistic about it! It’s just like, once it gets in my brain, it keeps bugging me, and I don’t know the answer, but I’m really curious. What really happens is: I have an idea for what the answer is, but then I want to figure out if I’m right or not. So I have to keep working to find out. And oftentimes, in the process of learning I’m wrong, I’ll run into something even cooler. And then once I find that, I just want to tell everyone about it.
я верю, да, в эгоистичное преподавание, не в рутинное или просветительское. в то, что искать ответы важно в первую очередь для нас самих. в то, что изо дня в день объясняя элементарные истины, можно заглянуть дальше, сквозь них, где и кроется что-то — зачастую — весьма неочевидное.
и об этом тоже, кстати, была пара слов в “Anathem”.
