Last Tuesday, long-suffering fans of the reclusive writer Thomas Pynchon received a double gift. Pynchon’s latest book, “Inherent Vice,” a stoned-out detective story set in early-‘70s L.A., was released by Penguin Press. And to promote it, the publisher put out a cool video trailer featuring a narrator whose slow, lazy cadence sounds suspiciously like that of Pynchon’s.

Tracy Locke, a publicist at Penguin, came clean and admitted, “It is, in fact, Thomas Pynchon doing the narration.”

по-моему, это прекрасно: Роберт Най, “Миссис Шекспир. Собрание сочинений”:
Наша Сусанна говорит, что в пьесах мистера Шекспира сплошь горе, и кощунства, и несчастные любовники.
Одна-единственная счастливая пара, она рассказывает, и есть на все творенья моего супруга, и та по фамилии Макбет.
Тоже и героев себе выискал, язычников.

The camera pans to look out over the edge of the flight deck, and down below, we see the first beginnings of the Raft: a relatively small collection of a few hundred boats that have glommed onto the Enterprise, hoping for a free ride across to America.

кто во что горзад, а Twitter.com оказался рабочей площадкой для написания оперы:
The Royal Opera House is to stage an opera created through social networking site Twitter.
Members of the public have been invited to submit their “tweets” online – messages of up to 140 characters – which will form the new libretto.
The first scene of the as-yet-untitled work has already been completed and features a man who has been kidnapped by a group of birds.

времена меняются, а любителям запахов и библиотечной пыли наступает пора собирать другие коллекции.

о нем многое сказано, но чаще всего я вспоминаю вот это:
