в очередь, сукины дети, в очередь

так уж вышло, что за последнее время досыта насмотрелись различных сериалов. а потому надо бы подвести безутешные итоги:
- “The Lost Room”: исключительно слабая попытка театрализировать Дэвида Линча. удивительно, но мне отчего-то понравилось. а самое странное, — это то, что, видимо, как раз сюжетными лакунами.
- “Prime Suspect”: обычный детективный сериал с замечательной Хелен Миррен, играющей здесь, тем не менее, весьма посредственно. к тому же, нет никакого смысла, видимо, говорить о всех этих “Midsomer Murders“, “Zen”, разных “Волландерах” и тому подобному;
- “Damages”: избитые адвокатские заговоры с Гленн Глоуз в одной из главных ролей; скучно;
- “Spooks”: честно говоря, я даже не поверил, что это можно показывать сегодня на полном серьезе;
- “Whitechapel”: еще один новомодный британский детектив по следам Джека-Потрошителя — на этом, однако, любой возможный интерес заканчивается;
- “Luther”: на фоне предыдущих может и терпимо, одако в целом удивительно низкопробно;
- “Castle”: опять только лишь пошлые штампы;
- “The Killing”: зато наконец хоть что-то стоящее. причем как первоисточник, датская версия, так и американский римейк;
- “The Wire”: и снова неплохо, однако быстро приедается. авторы самую малость, но все же не дотянули: вместо нео-нуара им приходится каждый раз скармливать зрителю хоть какое-то подобие happy endings, что в конце концов надоедает. да и от примелькавшегося мерзавца тоже начинает воротить;
- “Ликвидация”: растянуто и бессмысленно, предсказуемо и однообразно. плюс, убитые сытостью актерские лица на хребте искривленного сюжета;
- “Облдрамтеатр”: не в пример лучше — хотя бы актеры незнакомые и предсказуемость истории успешно спратана за ворохом red herrings;
- “The Glades”: опять детектив, но, по крайней мере, абсолютно беспретенциозный;
- “Veronica Mars”: и еще один, на этот раз про девочек-скаутов — а значит и не сюжет даже, но только набор удачных совпадений и везений;
- “Scrubs”: оказывается, я не видел раньше повсеместно известных “Докторишек” — обычный ситком, тем не менее, успевающий между кадров рассказать что-то для каждого важное. и много простых шуток, которые, в общем-то, оттого и смешны, что не пытаются казаться умнее;
- “Suburgatory”: эдакая “American Beauty” с натужным скрипом дубового юмора и такой же морали;
- “Mr Sunshine”: еще один ситком — на этот раз с Мэттью Перри, что уже неплохо. а так же политкорректный сарказм и другие разрешенные шалости;
- “Shit My Dad Says”: или, по-крайней мере, можно так, напролом и без прикрас: глупые шутки, которые рассказывают глупые актеры; не особенно смешно, но зато честно;
- “Til Death”: вообще, о семейной жизни можно рассказывать бесконечно (и 11 сезонов “Married… with Children” лучшее тому доказательство) но тут еще и пара-тройка забавных находок: чего стоит только психоз одного из героев, который уверен, что вся его жизнь — это и в самом деле роль в каком-то сериале;
- “Rules of Engagement”: а вот этот хоть и ровно о том же, но значительно скучнее;
- “Two and a Half Men”: чтобы помнили, что в каждом из нас тоже есть кусочек Чарли Шина;
- “The Tudors”: ужасное псевдоисторическое дерьмо;
- “The Borgias”: ровным счетом то же самое. говорят, французско-немецкая версия лучше, но желание убедиться собственоручно у меня так и не появилось (вообще, думаю, это слишком благодатная и глубокая эпоха, что мельчить ее сериалами);
- “Downton Abbey”: еще одна костюмированная драма из тех, что достаточно быстро приедаются, но которую все равно зачем-то смотришь. может потому, что актеры просто хорошо играют? и тогда, что ужасно, сюжет перестает иметь хоть какое-то значение;
- “Black Mirror”: я обожаю сатиру, и эти три короткометражных фильма совершенно чудесны; лучшее, что я видел за последнее время;
- The Bleak Old Shop Of Stuff: любите Диккенса, ориентируетесь в нем? тогда, пожалуйста, литературные шутки, гэги и молниеносные шпильки; реальность книг, исчезающая в пост-модерне злободневности — с десятками фиг в карманах;
- “Green Wing”: ровно тем же хорош и этот английский ответ нескончаемой эксплуатации медицинской тематики — засилием абсурда, отсутсвием страха и абсолютно безудержным весельем;
- “Mongrels”: а так же эта кукольная игра;
- “Mad Men”: или старательно выпестованная ностальгия — и хоть “American Psycho” все равно веселее, но тут зато бывают хорошие цитаты:
Roger Sterling: You don’t know how to drink, your whole generation. You drink for the wrong reasons. My generation, we drink because it’s good. Because it feels better than unbuttoning your collar. Because we deserve it. We drink because it’s what men do.
Don Draper: What about shaky hands?
Roger Sterling: I see a lot of that, too, with you boys. No joke. Your kind with your gloomy thoughts and your worries, you’re all busy licking some imaginary wound.ну да, к чему скрывать, я и сам временами поступаю ровно так же.

Words not only name the world they make it. Wittgenstein’s idea that language does not merely represent reality but essentially brings it about has been around for a while.
I wonder if the same can be said of ‘maps’ – attempts to situate knowledge by reference to spatial categories in a fashion akin to a geographical map: The map made the British empire ‘real’, it turns states and peoples (in a collectivist sense) into real entities independent of their constituent elements – people. In short, it informs the way we envisage the world at large to be.
What makes the map so powerful a catalyst for (the perception of) reality? It is a limitless canvas, an externalized tabula rasa, it cannot but be waiting to record the process of human creativity – the making of the world. With its spatial references it connects neatly with the primordial categories of perception Kant identified.
However, lacking our third spatial dimension as well as a temporal evolution of its own (‘change’) the map is for ever ontologically inferior to its authors, and totally under their control: language can be interpreted in many ways very different from what their author had in mind.
With maps this is much more difficult. If language is reality, then maps are even more so: a map embodies reality and control. So in a sense the map is the confluence of the formulation of human will, the ability to implement it, and to control it – all at once. As such a map is not an objective description but the result of specific intention.
