что ж, авторы снова негодуют за пиратские книжки: и воровать[1], говорят, уважаемые читатели, нехорошо, и платить напрямую тоже зря, — потому что издательские дяди тогда свою часть не получат, и означенное публиковать больше не станут.
урок, однако, именно в этом и заключается — в том, что многие до сих пор элементарно не понимают, насколько изменилась система извлечения прибыли в книгоиздании: вы сбываете не просто текст, но как раз дополнительные услуги, верстку и иллюстрации, редакторские затраты и дополнительные комментарии, удобство потребления и качество носителя.
потому что книги — именно книги — чудесно расходятся и без всех этих стонов.
да, впереди тяжелый переходный этап. да, удержатся лишь те, кто сможет адаптироваться. но у всех остальных-то шансов и вовсе нет, будь то в равной степени авторы или посредники:

про мировосприятие и интерфейсы будущего:
[I]f you embed the interface–the control surface for a technology–into our own bodily envelope, that interface will “disappear”: the technology will cease to be a separate “thing” and simply become part of that envelope. The trouble is that unlike technology, your body isn’t something you “interface” with in the first place. You’re not a little homunculus “in” your body, “driving” it around, looking out Terminator-style “through” your eyes. Your body isn’t a tool for delivering your experience: it is your experience. Merging the body with a technological control surface doesn’t magically transform the act of manipulating that surface into bodily experience. I’m not a cyborg (yet) so I can’t be sure, but I suspect the effect is more the opposite: alienating you from the direct bodily experiences you already have by turning them into technological interfaces to be manipulated.

Looking is no longer just looking. It’s using your eyes as an abstracted form of “hands” in order to cater to some technological system.

Я пользуюсь tumblr с 2007 года, но так по сей день и не понял, зачем нужна эта соцсеть в её нынешнем виде (6 лет назад она позиционировалась как Твитырь для тех, кому мало Твитыря, но с тех пор очень многое изменилось). <...> Время от времени я слышу от разных людей, что tumblr неимоверно крут, что в нём происходит какая-то своя бурная жизнь, что там какой-то запредельный функционал и т.п. Но сколько ни пытался отыскать следы этой жизни и этого функционала, ничего не получалось.

новые технологии, определенно, внушают кому-то страх:
Earlier this month the world’s first fully 3D-printed gun was successfully fired and Reason-Rupe finds Americans are torn on 3D technology. A substantial 62 percent of Americans say people should be allowed to use 3D printers in their homes. Among those who say Americans should be allowed to have 3-D printers in their home, a majority (53 percent) say Americans should not be allowed to print their own gun parts, 44 percent say they should.

Last week, the State Department’s arms export office demanded that Defense Distributed remove CAD files for the Liberator from its website.

In a nutshell, the letter demands the takedown while it decides whether publishing firearms-related CAD files online violates ITAR. ITAR, which stands for the International Traffic in Arms Regulations, are rules that the State Department promulgated under the Arms Export Control Act. One part of ITAR is the United States Munitions List, which is a master list of products and technologies that can’t be exported without prior government approval under a licensing system. Because Defense Distributed didn’t seek an export license, there’s a problem.
но вот какой возникает нюанс:
Why is this a First Amendment case? One of the issues is whether the government can prevent citizens from publishing gun blueprints. A big gateway question, though, is how to characterize Defense Distributed’s CAD files in the first place. Is a CAD file expressive speech that should be protected, or a functional thing that should be regulated?
даже если на какой-то миг отбросить законодательные изыски в сторону, и ограничиться самыми элементарными понятиями, можем ли мы хотя бы для себя определить позицию, которой следовало бы придерживаться в таких условиях? возможность распечатать пистолет? эй, звучит пугающе. необходимость цензуры? черт, это было бы ужасно. контроль за соответствующим оборудованием? помните, как в СССР — за факсами, модемами, копировальными машинами. но разве это хоть когда-нибудь помогало?
так получится ли выработать свое, пусть даже сильно упрощенное, но мнение? на данный момент у меня не выходит.

US authorities seized the accounts of a Bitcoin digital currency exchange operator, claiming it was functioning as an “unlicensed money service business,” court documents showed Friday.
A warrant revealed by the Department of Homeland Security showed a judge signed the seizure order Tuesday for the accounts of Mutum Sigillum LCC, a subsidiary of Japan-based Mt. Gox, the world’s biggest Bitcoin exchange.
