Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That’s because they were able to connect experiences they’ve had and synthesize new things. And the reason they were able to do that was that they’ve had more experiences or they have thought more about their experiences than other people.

Siri, кстати, хвалят беспрерывно:
In a sense, Siri is like a second interface to iOS. The first interface is the app interface. Launch, tap, drag, slide. The Siri interface is a different world. As stated above, this new interface is in many ways the opposite of the regular one — open-ended and implicit instead of narrowly defined and explicit. I don’t mean to imply that Siri doesn’t fit in or feel right at home — it does. But Siri is indicative of an AI-focused ambition that Apple hasn’t shown since before Steve Jobs returned to the company. Prior to Siri, iOS struck me being designed to make it easy for us to do things. Siri is designed to do things for us.
After using Siri for a week, I can tell you it works just as good in real life situations as it did in Scott Forstall’s demo at the launch event.
The important thing to remember about Siri is that it’s not just another voice technology. Siri understands the context of what you are asking it and responds appropriately.

You don’t dictate to Siri, you interact and have a conversation with Siri.
Some other phones, including earlier iPhones, have rudimentary voice recognition, for limited terms and responses. But Siri does much more. It offers too much to fully describe here, but it isn’t a simple voice-command system. It understands a wide variety of ways to ask a question, grasps the context, and returns useful information in a friendly way, either audibly or by displaying results on the screen. It learns your voice as it goes along.

If you ask Siri if there’s a god, the software points you in the direction of the nearest church (oddly, no synagogues, Buddhist temples, or mosques are suggested).

A number of folks have written that while Siri looks good, it seems like a feature that gives good demo but won’t actually get used. I disagree. I think this is a feature that will sell the device. And I think all of Apple’s rivals will have to act quickly to counter it. We’ve all seen the science fiction television shows and films where people talk to their computers like human beings and the computer understands them. That future is now.

какой чудесный слог, какое замечательное безумие:
Вот мы собраемся, пять-шесть женщин, дети оставлены на мужей или родственников, и устраиваем книжный клуб. В американской провинции мы читаем Чехова, Пушкина и Улицкую. Наши дети американцы, многие едва говорят по-русски, а не пишет почти никто. Мы – последнее массово читающее поколение; те, кому до тридцати, не читают вообще. Т.е. на интернете они читают куски и обрывки, так сказать, малые формы, но книг, тем более бумажных книг, уже не читают. Бумажные тома так же актуальны, как клинописные таблички царя Хамураппи.
общность единомышленников, не правда ли? натуральный манифест. и дискуссии, комментарии в поддержку друг друга тоже великолепны своей глубиной.
вообще, этот пафос избранных, бессмысленный и беспощадный, он всегда очаровыввает своей законченностью и монолитностью. словно машина времени? словно дверь в параллельный мир.

реакция Столлмана на смерть Джобса была предсказуемой (Stallman being Stallman, as one may say). но дело, в общем-то, не в том, что он сказал, но почему. и это самое “почему” — оно выглядит безумно смешно, если дать себе труд задуматься над сказанным.[1].
иными словами, всегда приятно наблюдать, как люди расписываются в собственном бессилии. как они боятся. как ищут врагов. как срываются на оскорбления. как ненавидят инакомыслящих. как поэтому слабы они и нелепы:
First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.
плюс, меня всегда забавляло, насколько быстро именно “борцы за свободу” оказываются в первых рядах тех, кто хочет ограничить свободу других — вся история, любой ее пример говорит об этом. и Столлман в очередной раз не исключение[2].
как говорится, у всех свое представление об открытости[3] — но от иных меня тошнит.

[1] — реакции иных зашоренных тоже веселят (даже очень), и я действительно наслаждаюсь этим цирком в полной мере; спасибо им.
[2] — достаточно сравнить лицензии GPL и BSD, чтобы воочию увидеть “computer as a jail”.
