Last month I received an encrypted email from someone calling himself by the pseudonym Kuwabatake Sanjuro, who pointed me towards his recent creation: The website Assassination Market, a crowdfunding service that lets anyone anonymously contribute bitcoins towards a bounty on the head of any government official–a kind of Kickstarter for political assassinations. According to Assassination Market’s rules, if someone on its hit list is killed — and yes, Sanjuro hopes that many targets will be — any hitman who can prove he or she was responsible receives the collected funds.

In August 2012, thanks to YouGov, I launched my first national survey to probe more deeply about what Americans know about intelligence agencies, what they think about controversial intelligence programs, and where those attitudes come from. In light of the Edward Snowden revelations, last month I asked YouGov to run another poll that asked some of the same questions, along with new ones about NSA so that I could start tracking trends over time. The poll ran Oct. 5-7, 2013, and included 1,000 people (with a margin of error of +/- 4.3 percent).

только что в пабе видел девушку с бумажным органайзером-календарем, разбитым на недели, полным всяческих событий, заботливо обведенных в рамочки и подсвеченных различными маркерами. а еще она писала SMS на смартфоне, используя для этого маленькую цифровую клавиатуру на весь дисплей, где — как в старые добрые времена — определенная буква выбиралась в соответствии с количеством нажатий на экран.

мы искренне любили когда-то друг друга — я и Mozilla Firefox. с самых ранних пор (а познакомились мы давно, вначале я звал его Phoenix, потом Firebird, и только затем — по-дружески — Fx[1]) привязанности нашей не было границ: ни в объемах оперативной памяти, ни в скорости обработки новомодных технологий, ни в чем вообще.
и хотя сегодня я уже многие годы пользуюсь другим бразуером на ином движке, время от времени былое накатывает комком воспоминаний, и тогда я не перестаю удивляться вслед минувшему: как, как можно было все-таки сочинить такой отвратительный и исключительно перекошенный интерфейс? почему неизменно всегда там все было и есть криво, заплатками, да подпорками?
увы.
и если кто-то в самом деле полагает, что на основе этого монстра сегодня можно решать хоть какие-то задачи, то в голове у этих людей ровно такая же разруха и погром, как и у дизайнеров от Mozilla[2].

мне кажется, первый кадр, что обязательно хочет сделать любой, попавший в Израиль, — это непременные целующиеся девочки и мальчики в военной форме с автоматами наперевес.
это куда важнее любых религиозных останков на свете. и пока мы щелкаем фотозатворами им вслед, у мира непременно остается шанс.
