A Dutch court has extended a supervision order on a 14-year-old girl, further delaying her quest to become the latest and youngest teenager to sail solo around the world.

In Holland, Dekker has taken on an intense period of training to try to convince the authorities she is capable of completing the journey, her lawyer Peter de Lange told the court. She has passed a first aid diploma, become accustomed to lack of sleep and arranged to do schoolwork online.
But the court in the southern Dutch city of Middelburg ruled that she should remain under state supervision for at least another month. Social workers had asked for a two-month extension of the order.

Staveley advised the Qatari property company Barwa Real Estate on the £250m acquisition of the Park House site in Oxford Street – the biggest development in the area since the Second World War – from the developer, Land Securities.

ну, и заодно Мартин Скорсезе о “Барри Линдоне”:
I’m not sure if I can say that I have a favourite Kubrick picture, but somehow I keep coming back to Barry Lyndon. I think that’s because it’s such a profoundly emotional experience. The emotion is conveyed through the movement of the camera, the slowness of the pace, the way the characters move in relation to their surroundings. People didn’t get it when it came out. Many still don’t. Basically, in one exquisitely beautiful image after another, you’re watching the progress of a man as he moves from the purest innocence to the coldest sophistication, ending in absolute bitterness – and it’s all a matter of simple, elemental survival. It’s a terrifying film because all the candlelit beauty is nothing but a veil over the worst cruelty. But it’s real cruelty, the kind you see every day in polite society.

Artists like Kubrick have minds expansive and dynamic enough to picture the world in motion, to comprehend not just where its been, but where it’s going.

светопись Андрея Тарковского на полароидных снимках. вот, что писал об этом Тонино Гуэрра:
In 1977, on my wedding ceremony in Moscow Tarkovsky appeared with a Polaroid camera. He had just shortly discovered this instrument and used it with great pleasure among us. He and Antonioni were my wedding witnesses. According to the custom of the period they had to choose the music played during the signing of the wedding documents. They chose the “Blue Danube”.

Tarkovsky thought a lot about the “flight” of time and wanted to do only one thing: to stop it – even if only for a moment, on the pictures of the Polaroid camera.
а еще так совпало, что буквально недавно я побывал на выставке фотографий Стэнли Кубрика. тоже великий, но совершенно другой. тем интереснее вышло пересечение — не могу не удержаться от цитаты:

ну, и, конечно, вувузелы — все только и говорят о необходимости их убрать. а между тем прекрасный инструмент:

ну, вот и отсмотрел весь первый тур. результаты неутешительные: 3 интересных матча из 16, 2 действительно хороших команды из 32 (причем одна из них даже не сумела выиграть) и 2 (ну, ладно, пусть 3) неплохих. зато, как говорится, хорошее судейство.
так что скучаем, валяясь подле телевизора, размешивая спорт и кино мозаикой. пьем вино, занимаемся любовью. что, впрочем, может быть лучше этой летней истомы?
дальше, конечно, будет веселее, но каких-то удивительных сюрпризов чемпионат пока так и не преподнес (Испания же не в счет — их стартовое невезение на чемпионатах мира уже давно фактически предсказуемо).
ничего другого больше не будет

в промежутках между играми смотрю различную киноклассику. много экранизаций Чехова — “Неоконченная пьеса для механического пианино”, “Дядя Ваня”, “Плохой хороший человек”, “Вишневый сад”, “Чайка”[1]. затем Пушкин, его “Пиковую даму”[2] и “Бориса Годунова”, еще “Золотую цепь” неисправимого романтика Александра Грина, потом вдруг “Рабу любви” и, наконец, совершенно прекрасную “Легенду о Тиле” по роману Шарля де Костера — не столько легенду даже, не историю, сколько удивительнейшую гравюру, кровоточащую любым своим кадром.
что до “Безотцовщины”, послужившей костяком для сценария “Неоконченной пьесы”, то мы как раз обсуждали ее и экранизацию совсем недавно с 
agathis — и он был нескончаемо прав: какая удивительная честность взрывается в герое, какая потрясающая безжалостная сила — и дальше все заканчивается, а на утро жизнь заводит с нами уже известную песню:
Вы, наверное, решили, что мы тут опустились. Да нет, мы с Иваном Иванычем трудимся на ниве эмансипации и прогресса. А Порфирий Семёнович у нас косить умеет, гигиенист, мужикам бороды бреет. Вы знаете, так бреет, у него ж вся деревня, как Мариинский театр – все почему-то с босыми лицами ходят. Газеты из столиц выписываем, а господин Петрин нам их читает. На поприщах трудимся – и очень даже. А это жена моя Сашенька. Гражданский долг, продолжение рода. Размножаемся. Имею сына, наследника идеи. Средств нету, господа, так что идеи наследуем.

а вот компьютер, что изменил мир:
Ed Roberts optimistically told his banker that he could sell 800 computers and he knew they needed to sell 200 over the next year just to break even. When readers got the January issue of Popular Electronics, MITS was flooded with inquiries and orders. They had to hire extra people just to answer the phones. In February MITS received 1,000 orders for the Altair 8800. The quoted delivery time was 60 days but it was months before they could meet that. Roberts focused on delivering the computer; all of the options would wait until they could keep pace with the orders. MITS claimed to have delivered 2,500 Altair 8800s by the end of May. The number was over 5,000 by August 1975. MITS had under 20 employees in January but had grown to 90 by October 1975.
