Спрашиваю: “Какие фильмы о войне вы смотрели?” Одна рука. “Звездные войны”.
наверное, все слышали расхожее “историю надо знать для того, чтобы избежать будущих ошибок”, да? так вот, никаких ошибок избежать оно не помогает, разумеется. более того, и само-то понятие “ошибки” в истории выглядит, как минимум, довольно спорно.
а еще в истории нет правых и виноватых. нет мечтаний и раздумий. но есть практически одна только экономика.
и поэтому бездумно зазубривать что бы то ни было — это только очередной фетиш, сродни религиозному.

мне, кстати, нравятся лица на картинах Олафа Брарена — хотя в целом naïve art все же абсолютно не мой жанр.
мне по душе какие-то фргаменты, полагаю, — например, отдельные работы Пиросмани, или Эдварда Хикса, или Генри Руссо, или что-то еще — но общей картины все равно не складывается; не чувствую.
к сожалению.

про Kindle Fire, ценообразование и народные ожидания:

Remember when everyone was sure that Apple’s tablet was going to cost around $1,000? That was 18 months ago. We’re spoiled. The fact of the matter is that the iPad behaves like a piece of technology that should cost more than $500. Apple set the bar very high.
ровно так дело и было, кстати, — я отчетливо помню момент, когда за день до анонса согласно любым прогнозам iPad должен был стоить, как минимум, $900. затем, 24 часа спустя, люди начали говорить о том, что и $500 — это перебор. и, наконец, сегодня именно они хотят воплотить все те же свои ожидания уже по $200.
nihil sub sole novum. и каждый получает то, что хочет, правда?
I expected the Kindle Fire to be good for books, great for magazines and newspapers, great for video, and good for apps and games.

[1] — Amazon, конечно же, чихать хотел на “iPad alternative”-штампы. наоборот, они представили iTunes alternative, и это куда больше. однако, дело в том, что если сервисы похожи, то и интерфейсам следовало бы. а вот тут-то и начинаются разночтения.

а вот интервью Джеффа Безоса. не то, чтобы жутко интересное, напротив: за исключением вопросов о налогах и патетнтном законодательстве, разговор и сопутствующий анализ оказались довольно-таки поверхностными (при всем моем уважении к Стивену Леви) — вот, скажем:
Levy: The release of the Fire showcases how forward-thinking Bezos has been.
ага, спустя почти три года после того, как Apple представила iPad.
или еще:
Levy: Yes, the Fire lacks the industrial-design pyrotechnics that make fanboys foam at the mouth like the iPad does. But who cares?

как говорится, ну да, ну да: public notes в Kindle можно делать лишь к тем книгам, что были куплены у них же в магазине. хотя, казалось бы, отчего бы не перенсети к себе в облако всю мою билиотеку? не говоря уже и просто о названиях и заметках?

бункер из тлена Второй мировой превратят в электростанцию:
The flak bunker on Neuhöfer Strasse in Wilhelmsburg was constructed in 1942, and during the war, up to 30,000 people crammed into the massive structure while Allied bombs rained down on the city. <...> Now, instead of spending more energy and money attempting to bring the 70-year-old relic down, the city of Hamburg plans to convert it into an energy bunker.
Beginning in 2012, a heating and power system fueled by wood chips will begin operation on the ground floor of the bunker. Approximately 3,000 square meters of solar panels will be installed on the roof and south face of the bunker; and waste heat from a nearby industry will be piped into the bunker to be stored and fed into the grid.

к слову, если про биткойны, то штука выходит жутко интересная: когда еще можно было воочию увидеть зарождение новой экономики? особенно если учесть тех китов, на которых она держится[1]:
- полная анонимность; неподконтрольность ни банковским, ни политическим системам;
- ограниченное количество денежных единиц (не более двадцати одного миллиона);
- отсутствие банковских сборов;
- конвертируемость.
что в сумме практически воссоздает золотой стандарт, не меньше.
однако, и тут не без подвоха, разумеется — как напрямую следует из вышесказанного, в связи с последними событиями биткойны оказались идеальным объектом для инвестиций (копия):
